Gavin Donn Welcomes You

My aim is to provide osteopathic healthcare for a range of complaints, and for patients of all ages. I practice at The Foot Clinic in Glastonbury High St every Monday and Wednesday. If you have any pain, or wish to discuss any aspect of the treatments I offer please do not hesitate to get in contact.

The journey

My journey towards becoming an osteopath could be said to have started in India. I went travelling in 1995 and visited many beautiful places like the Himalayas and the wonderful beaches. However, travelling in India is not easy, with 12 hour journeys on rickety buses and carrying large backpacks. Also, Indian culture demands more of the body in terms of stretching, squatting, sitting on the floor, and I quickly realised that my body wasn’t up to it. I became very ill, and had to stop travelling, rest up and work out how to get better. It was then that I became interested in learning how to help the body help itself to become healthy.

Ayurveda

Taking advantage of where I was, I became interested in Ayurveda, the old healing system of India. This uses a variety of techniques to regain health. These include physical therapy, like massage and spinal manipulation, to help the structure and function of the body, as well as the use of the right foods and herbs. Included in this is also the right use of the mind

Ultimately India showed me that every person can do a lot to help themselves when they are ill, and osteopathy can offer a greater understanding of how to look after yourself.
After being inspired by the ancient knowledge of India, I have consistently strived to improve my understanding and hands on abilities. In 2003 I completed a Bowen course in Melbourne. Then in 2007 I completed a Massage course in Somerset, and in 2008 began my 5 year degree in osteopathy. I have also completed a post-graduate course in cranial osteopathy.
It was whilst living in Melbourne that my daughter was born. It was a forceps birth and after the delivery she couldn’t turn her neck properly. She benefitted greatly from cranial osteopathy in restoring full function to the neck.

"An osteopath is only a human engineer, who should understand all the laws governing his engine and thereby master disease."– Andrew Taylor Still

I have been seeing Gavin Donn fairly regularly for some time. I have mild  inflammation in some of my joints and I have deep tension as well. The combination of gentle movement of my joints and spine,  deep  massage and the Bowen technique is wonderful and I feel deeply relaxed and everything feels, as if it was  in the right place. Highly recommended!

After every  session with Gavin, I have gone on to have pain-free days, found  movement easier, experienced better sleep and I am very grateful for  that!
